My first day at Kogakuin was a field trip to Mount Takao. My host sister and I took the train to the Takao station where we met up with the four other girls in my class. The five of us were put into a group, and we climbed all three mountains in the area together from start to finish. The total journey was 14 miles long, and very exhausting. I don't think I have ever walked as much as I walked today, and it very challenging despite being a long distance runner on my school's track team, buthe pretty views made it worthwhile. It took us around six hours to complete the hike, as we took many breaks. My group and I tried the dangos (Japanese rice dumpling) that were specific to Mount Takao. They were very delicious, and I was glad I got to try them out for the first time. There were also some Buddhist temples along the way, and I drew a fortune at one of them. I was reluctant to do it at first because I was scared of getting a bad fortune, but the one I drew was "medium lucky," which relieved me. Tomorrow, I will begin to have classes and will go to the school, so I will meet the rest of my classmates.
